"Paddling Eastern North Carolina" is an expanded and updated third edition guidebook to canoeing and kayaking rivers, creeks, and swamps of eastern North Carolina. From exciting whitewater of the Piedmont foothills to quiet blackwater of the Coastal Plain, the guidebook includes over 3,500 miles of paddling trips on 109 streams. Each stream is divided into one or more sections for choosing paddling trips. The trips are selected from over three-quarters of North Carolina from the Yadkin-Pee Dee Basin to the coast: Some of these streams are covered by a guidebook for the first time. Each trip includes detailed descriptions, maps, distance, difficulty, width, and gauge information. Also included is information about River Rating Systems, Paddling Safety, Paddlers Rights, Paddling Courtesy, River Camping, River Gauges, Water Quality, River Selection, and Clubs and Organizations.

About the Author
Paul Ferguson has paddled the streams of North Carolina since 1973. He has led trips for several canoe clubs and been the trip leader for expeditions in Labrador and Lapland. Paul is a member of the Carolina Canoe Club, Coastal Canoeists, Lumber River Canoe Club, Canadian Recreational Canoeing Association, American Canoe Association, and American Whitewater. He has served the Carolina Canoe Club as President, Board of Directors, and Safety and Training officer. He has also served on the North Carolina Rivers Assessment Advisory Board, North Carolina Trails Association Board of Directors, and Dan River Basin Association Board of Directors. Paul has authored the following articles: "Mining Threatens Labrador's Rivers" in Canoe & Kayak magazine, August 1996; "Canoeing Labrador's Notakwanon River" in Kanawa magazine, Aug/Sep 1997; and "Canoeing North Carolina's Lumber" in Paddler magazine, Jan/Feb 2000. In December 2002, he published a new canoeing and kayaking guidebook -- "Paddling Eastern North Carolina." An updated and expanded second edition was published in March 2007. "Canoeing and Kayaking South Carolina: A Guide to Paddling the Palmetto State" was published June 2014. The third edition of "Paddling Eastern North Carolina" available since May 2018.
