| “Mion (pronounced ‘my own’) is Martin Keen's quest to make the best footwear ever, for people who share his need for a shoe that can perform in the harshest conditions on earth and water”. Although these sandals and shoes were designed with the above statement in mind, Martin Keen has designed a shoe that is extremely comfortable even if your harshest condition is running from the front door to the car in the rain. The Mion brand is still fairly new for our store but you will find at least three of our employees wearing a pair on any given day. Unlike many technical-oriented footwear styles, Mion footwear does not reserve itself for only the weekend outdoor getaway or paddling trip. In fact, I have worn my sandals all day on the harsh tile floor of the shop and then straight to the river after work without taking them off. Although the sandals are offered in many unique styles and colors, the technical aspects are what set Mion apart from other footwear brands. Mion footwear incorporates some distinctive technologies such as an ‘Ergomorphic’ footbed that takes the shape of your foot after about 12 hours of wearing them. Each footbed therefore conforms to the dimensions of your foot thereby creating a custom and permanent fit, hence the term “my own”. Another characteristic unique for Mion sandals is the technology behind the non-slip sole. The soles are made from a combination of materials that become sticky in water and the design incorporates multi-directional siping and water-channeling characteristics. Where most water shoes provide only traction from the front to the back of the shoe, Mion sandal’s “Quad Cut” siping also provides traction from side to side. All of these features add up to a sole that provides superior traction on any wet or uneven surfaces. The sandals are held together with a “Super Structure” upper and a continuous single cord lacing system. Each area of your foot is held firmly in place without feeling tight by adjusting this single continuous cord which wraps through the internal structure of the shoe. A continuous single cord system also means no loose laces and ease of adjustment. Martin Keen and the Mion brand have developed an extremely comfortable and unique footwear line that remains incredibly comfortable both in and out of the water. A true water shoe, the Mion brand shoe floats and does not retain water thereby maintaining their light-weight. Martin Keen and Mion have also devoted a strong commitment to the environment in both the manufacture and distribution of its product line. Come by the store and try a pair on to find out what makes them “my own”. See you on the water. |
